is another short story by Fyodor Dostoyevsky on Librivox. This is my least favorite so far, but it retains Dostoyevsky’s flare for convincingly describing the emotional and thought-life of dysfunctional, self-destructive people. This one about a man who couldn’t handle it when things went well. It seems the turning point for Dostoyevsky’s anti-hero is when he almost against his will lets the girl go. Wikipedia says Dostoyevsky married after his prison stay. Who knows what relationships he didn’t have before that.
