Pedernales State Park, located in the Texas Hillcountry not too far from Austin, gets the award for the best bathrooms. They are restaurant quality and distributed conveniently around the campgrounds.
The views of the hills and the surprisingly broad seasonal falls are spectacular, but the hike that was recommended to us, Wolf Mountain Trail, was a little disappointing because the trail was really a graded road.
The ranger was even patrolling it in a golf cart. This makes for little shade and takes away all of the hidden mystery of a good windy narrow trail. It was nice and long though with good views from the summit. The extension to Jones’ Spring would have been more natural, but after 3 miles, the three of us and our dogs were ready to turn back.
